Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!

Yes, we have snow. Not as much as some weather people predicted, but we did receive a lot of snow today. Which Brooke of course was in love with. She is definitely like me there. Mike and his family HATE snow! Quite literally!! But I love it, even though it is cold. And Brooke always gets so eager to go play in it!! If I didn't make her come in every once in awhile to warm up, she would stay out in it, until she is freezing cold and wet! And of course her favorite thing is eating it! I didn't get any pictures of her today in it, but maybe another day.

Otherwise, we are all alive and in good health right now. We've all been through the nasty cold. But doing great now. Brooke is eagerly awaiting Christmas. I had a couple of her presents wrapped, after we put the tree up I put them under it. I am thinking that was a mistake not to be repeated. At least once a week she asks if she can open them. So I am really trying to think of things, read stories, show her things, and explain things pertaining to Christ's birth and the real reason for the season. I am hoping it is sinking in better than it appears. Like most other things. She's also learning a lot. She can read her numbers, write her name, read most of the abc's when she wants to, she is excellent with shapes, matching things, etc.
Mike is still staying pretty busy at work. And I am still home keeping house for now.

Our Tree & the hunting for it!!!!

I have been kind of putting my blog out of my head. Not exactly sure why, just have. But as I thought about it, I do have things to post about. So......
Our weekend after Thanksgiving was sort of normal. My dad went with my uncle Brent after Christmas Trees up Holden Canyon. Due to circumstances we weren't able to go up. So we went up the canyon here towards Brianhead and found my perfect tree for the year. (I am extremely picky about my Christmas Tree... probably mostly due to the fact that I LOVE Blue Spruces. So that is what I look for, as long as they are allowed for the year)
Before leaving Saturday we decided to take Brooke to see Santa at Christmas in the Country. Of course she wouldn't even look at him let alone get in line or sit on his lap. Yeah she has a big issue with talking to Santa! But she still wants him to bring her presents. lol.
It was snowing! Which to me is normal and I am used to. Mike on the other hand was not too thrilled on going up the canyon and look for trees in falling snow. We didn't end up going where originally planned. But I found a little road off the main highway that led down the river to quite a few nice trees. Bo found his two in a hurry. But me as always was looking for "the one".
We came upon a whole bunch of trees together and as I was looking at a few of them I noticed this one that looked very nice but it was pretty tall. (fyi we were looking for a 16' tree here) I mentioned to Mike that it was too bad it was so tall it was nice. We kept looking around. But my eyes would draw back to that tree. The more I looked at it the more I wanted it. But I didn't want to make Mike climb the tree to cut it down.
Mike asked if that was the tree I wanted. I said I liked it but there wasn't really a way to get it down. Bo had said something to Mike. And Mike answered, "Didn't you see the light around the tree?" Bo of course was baffled. Mike continued, "It had a white glow around it as soon as she saw it." Which as I thought about it, is kind of true. When I find "the one" I just know that that tree is it, we look at other trees sometimes, but I always go back to that one.
If you are appalled to this upcoming confession... I'm sorry for you. But I love my tree. Since we left the chainsaw in the truck up by the main road, (we really hadn't planned on finding anything, since we hadn't the other places we looked) we only had his dad's saw. And what a piece of work it was! It took those two a long time to saw the tree down. Then they had to cut it down to size more. It didn't help any that the saw kept falling apart.
If I had known it was going to take so long with such complications I would have went and got the dang chainsaw. I am very grateful they worked hard just to get the Christmas tree I wanted just to make me happy!! Thank you babe! I love you for how hard you work for me and us!
I would have taken the whole thing but that definitely would not have fit in my house width or length. Here is a picture of the gorgeous tree in our house.

An update on my grandma. When I talked to my mom, Grandma thought she was going to be released today. However they still don't know what it's wrong with her. I personally think they need to take her somewhere else and get a second opinion. I understand that it takes time sometimes, but if they can't figure it out why not send her somewhere else like say to a bigger hospital???? I know I don't know all the facts, but some things just seem obvious to me.

It is about time I update. We haven't been doing much and yet it seems like we have. The last weekend of the deer hunt we went up to help my dad and stayed the weekend. Oh and the Wednesday before Brooke and I headed up with the rest of my family to watch Sena run at State Cross Country. She did awesome she took 12th ( I hope I remebered that right). Here is a pic of her.
We also went up this last weekend to help my dad again. Shilo and Ryan also came down for the day Saturday.
We stayed here for Thanksgiving with Mike's family. This year his whole family was there. (As are most years we're with them) It was nice! Mike volunteered to make Sweet Potatoe Pie so this is a pic of Brooke in her apron before she helped me roll out the pie crust doe. I made the pie crust, he made the sweet potatoe filling.
My parents went over to my Grama and Grampa H's. Unfortunately my grama has been in the hospital this week. Last I knew she was still in there and they still weren't sure what was wrong with her. Hopefully they will know soon so she can get better.
Well beyond putting up Christmas lights and a little Christmas shopping here and there this is about all we have been up too. We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and doing good!!

My Deer

FYI..This might be a little brag session, so if you don't want to hear it then don't continue on. It's mostly for journal purposes.
My deer hunt started and ended yesterday, for the first time ever for me!! Mike, Brooke and I went camping Friday night. As we were getting ready to pull into our campsight Mike spotted a couple bucks. Of course it was the day before the hunts starts (as always... I was thinking). We got all set up and finished the night. Saturday morning we woke up early and got ready. We noticed a big group of does and fawns not far from our camping spot. We decided to walk down where they came up from while we waited for his parents to get up there. We didn't ever see anything but Mike figured we'd walk back through there last night.
His family got there and we all took wheelers out touring..... Didn't see a thing beyond does. They left in the early afternoon. We fixed lunch and waited for awhile. Then just before 5 we headed back where we went that morning. We hadn't walked far when Mike spotted the same bucks from Friday night. Despite the fact we were loud trudging through the leaves, they never heard us, saw us, or smelled us.
Mike kept Brooke back, I kept trying to figure out how I was going to shoot it. I am a lot better kneeling or leaning against something not straight standing. Well the trees were too far away without making noise and drawing attention. So I just stared through my scope waiting for him to turn to a good position. I shot and he went right down. I was so shocked. Mike was so excited he's all, "You got him!" We were both so excited I high fived him, we kept watching him to see if he got back up. After a few minutes he did, stumbled and fell again. This time he didn't get back up.
My awesome husband went up slit it's throat to make sure it was dead. He also figured out that I shot him through the throat straight through the jugular. It was so awesome. I was so excited. I didn't even start shaking until after I shot him. My heart was beating wildly the whole time and after my legs and hands were horrible. I was lucky I made it to the deer without stumbling often.
Then my awesome husband, who happens to be allergic to the hair on deer (and every other animal) gutted my deer. I was so proud and worried!! He did great. We tried to call his friend who was on the mountain, but he couldn't get reception. And his dad was to a scout thing. So we didn't have any other help. Luckily the only thing that happened was his hands went red and itchy. He broke out in hives for a little bit but after washing his hands they went away.
And Brooke, well she was awesome!! She did what she was told every time. When we told her to stay back she did, she stopped talking when she was told. She even helped hold the deer leg when Mike was gutting. And carry stuff back up the little hill. And she loved it. Other than the whole time she kept saying "Poor Deer".. It was cute and funny.
Anyway it was an awesome day. And I am still excited about it!!! It's definitely not the biggest buck out there I know, but I am happy with it. I have waited for years for this. Every other time I have seen a buck, it's either been too far away, Not a good shot/too many trees, or they run away before I have my gun ready. I finally got one and on opening day!!!

I just looked through my pictures and realized I am behind on what I wanted to post about.
A few weeks ago we went shooting. I had to practice shooting for my hunt as well as the just for fun shooting for all of us. Brooke was so excited and told us that she wanted to shoot, so Mike took his 22 and helped her. She had so much fun!! We didn't bring the big clip just the little one and Mike couldn't load it fast enough for her. One of her shots knocked the board over. Boy was she extremely proud of that!!

Late Late Post on Tree Trimming

I had this but forgot to put in pictures... So here it is finally...
We have been waiting for weeks and weeks to have stumps, old fence posts, and a dead tree to be removed from our yard. Well Nobody has ever come so last week Mike decided to take care of a few things himself. While I was at church, Bo and Mike pulled the fence posts out and a bush coming up from a root, put all of the stuff on Mike's dads 4-wheeler trailer.
Before we gave the trailer back we wanted to cut the tree down. So last Thursday that's what we did. Here are a few pics on Mike trimming. I had to pull on a rope attached to part of the tree because it was leaning towards the house, and we definitely didn't want it landing on/in the house.
It was one tough tree for being dead. The stump did not want to be cut out, Mike couldn't get low enough and that thing is so solid!!! So we had this stump that will stick up taller than the grass will.... Friday we had an idea that maybe starting it on fire, it would burn down at least a little bit. Well we tried and it took a lot of extra wood to help keep it lit (even using gas), it only burned parts on the outside edges (so much for a good idea right). So these are the pictures of our little fire that night when Mike kept it going so Brooke could roast marshmallows. We only had little ones, those are definately not quite as fun or tasty. But Brooke loved it.

Anniversary

So we just celebrated our 5th anniversary. This year we didn't do too much. Mike of course had to work all day. A friend kept Brooke until late evening for us. We cooked dinner and watched a movie at home.
I am very grateful that I have Mike. It definitely isn't always the easiest, but together we get through it. I feel blessed to have him as my husband!! And I am so grateful for his help and support and love!

Latest

Now that the hunt is over, we haven't been doing too much a little yard work here and there. We went fishing yesterday up to Yankee. We both caught a couple fish. It was fun. We took Mike and Bo's little fishing boat. I was nervous at first because of my fear of deep water, especially when I cannot see the bottom. But I had fun, didn't even think about the deep water. Bo complained he wasn't getting anything while Mike and I were catching 'em. So right when we are putting the poles away and bringing up anchor trying to rush before the storm gets us, Bo catches the biggest fish. It was beautiful up there, the leaves are starting to turn..... I was loving it. Mike liked it, we haven't fished very much this year and he's been wanting to.
Beyond working on building a chicken coop, we are now just sort of relaxing for awhile awaiting anniversary, birthdays and the rifle hunt.

Shout out to Sena!!!!

So I forgot (I don't know how....) to add that my family came down Saturday/Sunday. Sena was running C.C. in Bryce so my parents decided to come over and watch our car in the derby. They stayed the night and went home Sunday afternoon.

But the big news..... Sena took first in Bryce!!!! A guy from her team took first too! I was so excited for her. Wasn't able to go watch, but I imagine it was awesome. So congrats again to her!

The Derby

Well I have to admit it was the best derby I have ever been to!! Bo did really awesome driving. He made the best turns, however he got hit in the front tire which bent the strut and caused him not to be able to go as fast.


This year was huge for Iron County!! The place was packed and there were more cars involved than I have seen. The first mini car heat, Mike's cousin-in-law Mario caught on fire on his first lap (I didn't get a picture though), and Mike's uncle Ryan tipped on his side. This year they decided to disqualify you if you tipped on your side or hood so he was out. However they wouldn't let him drive out they forklifted his car out. And they broke and ruined a few major things in his engine. Needless to say he was furious! As he had a right to be.
Last year the mini-cars were working on doing demo too, however this year, it was better. So much for just racing for the number one spot. Heck no it gets a little viscious out there!! But it was great. In the third demo heat 1 car was rolled to its hood, and the one that pushed it was pushed on it's (guess he got pay back).
Our friend Nicholas from Beaver did pretty well too! I was a little upset because a Parowan guy (who happens to be Mario's brother...) would run into Bo anytime he was near him and was the cause for a few of the hits the car took. Which is natural yes but also a long story. Anyway overall, it was a really good derby!

Mini Car

Well Mike has been working on a mini car for the derby this year. Which is this coming weekend. And we are closer to the completion of the car. I am working on finishing painting on sponsors. We worked yesterday on painting the car. I think when I am done, Mike has to finish painting the bumpers and padding the driver side door. The only downside for his car is the tires! The ones he had won't fit. So we'll see how they fair. Here are pictures of the car! He had already started working on it, before I remembered to get the camera out for the before pics.

"Quick" trip to Logan

Okay so "Quick" only describes how long we were there!!! Last Tuesday the 18th my two sisters and I drove up to Logan. Back track here. So I have been trying to do some distance (branch) schooling through USU , I was going to start the summer semester. Well it has been a long drawn out process to get my financial aid. Having to do with 1 wrong number on my social security number in their system. Only I didn't find this out until the end of July. Well again another long process in trying to get them a copy of my ss card. Well last monday afternoon after talking with them again and a few more setbacks to get it to them, we decided I should just take a trip up there and get everything straightened out. So Tuesday I headed up.
Now of course when I want to do something, things don't quite go the way they should for me EVER! No matter where I go I swear! So Brooke and I left a LOT later than planned. We stopped in Aurora and I dropped Brooke off and picked up Amy and Sena. I knew Brooke would have been beyond bored with so much driving ahead, be good while I talked with the school, and not much time to play or do anything outside of the car, so I left her with my mom and brothers.
As soon as we got into the valley I was so excited. Ok so that is an understatement. When we turned off I-15 and headed through Brigham City I was excited, when we entered the valley I was ecstatic!! I wish the leaves would have started turning, but oh well. I was still in heaven!! I love love it. I kept asking the girls if they thought it was beautiful or what they thought. I think I drove them nuts!! lol. And of course i was extremely sad to leave.
While we were there we walked around the temple grounds. I had to take pictures! Man I love it. It looks like a castle!!! I was wishing I had some way to do a session (that I should have thought of that before I left Parowan with only pants). But then there wasn't much I could do with the girls either. And we didn't really have time! Since it was only a day trip.
I was also able to hurry and say hi to a friend up there that I haven't seen in years!! It was a good day other than the long dang driving, but then it would have been better if I could have stayed longer (maybe one day....)

Mud Bogs

This is the time of year I love. I LOVE Fall and I can feel it in the air! Fall is on it's way!!! lol. Anyway I also love the Iron County Fair! And once again it is here. Its always our busiest time of year. Mike's hunt (or hunts this year) and the fair. Yesterday was the starting of events (besides the Royalties)... the mud bogs. Last year we didn't go, we were hunting. This year we decided to go. It wasn't too bad. However it was the longest one I have ever been to! It was so muddy that it took near the end of the long line of superstocks for an Excursion (I cannot remember how many trucks in each category there was so..) that finally cut all the way through. And only 3 after him and 1 modified. We left at about 10:20 PM and they were just starting the second round! It started at 7. It took forever! They didn't leave until 1 AM!!! And I believe they even took some of it out!! And because August (usually coinciding with the fair) is the "monsoon" season here, we were in the lovely wind (which yes is normal for Parowan, but worse) and some rain. The rain wasn't bad- it was the wind. (I HATE wind except a good breeze on hot days)
My favorite part of the fair events, my in-laws put up and take down the flags, therefore we get in the back which usually is a better view and you don't have hundreds of people to deal with. We just sit/stand in the back of the truck bed! I personally love it!

Mickelsen Family Summer Reunion

So I know this is very very late, but here it is anyway. So over the 24th holiday my dad's side held their 2nd attempt at an annual Summer reunion. They camped out at Maple Grove from the 23rd to the 25th. Mike, Brooke, and I went up on the 24th for dinner and ejoy some activities with them. Not everyone came, but there was a pretty good turn out. And we like seeing everyone again.
We couldn't get my dad to go with us. And my mom with the rest of the kids were in Kanosh at my mother's parents' for their "big" 24th celebration. I guess my Aunt Tracey and the kids came down this year as well. So we (Mike, Brooke and I) were the only people their representing my dad's family. But it was fun! And we enjoyed seeing so much of the family again!!









Sorry the pictures are dark. My lovely flash likes to blind people. Really when I used it, my cousins thought it was lightning! I decided it would be better to let them play than keep them from hitting the ball. Oh and this wasn't everybody this is just when I finally remembered my camera.

Anything New?...

Well, I thought I should probably update. Although I am racking my brain on what to update about. We have been extremely busy doing lots and lots of yardwork. And of course for me never ending house work. Since the only thing we really have other than trees is DIRT. That is all we ever seem to have in our house is DIRT and lots of it! I will be so thrilled when we get the grass in. Yesterday we received the gravel for the driveway. So it's starting to come together. We are waiting on the tree trimmers to come pull trunks and dead trees out. Then the yard will look better and we can add the trellis for the one grape vine and work towards grass. I am so excited. We are also working on laying rocks back for a nice patio outside our front doors. When we get the yard all fixed I will post before and after pictures. But right now we are just working our little butts off.

Kevin, a guy Mike knows and does work for sometimes is cleaning out the only junk/weedy part of his beautiful yard and is getting rid of a lot of old broken down stuff. He gave Mike a go cart and 2 old snow mobiles. And believe me he could have came home with a boat and more if he knew he wouldn't be in trouble for it all or have a place to put them. Debbie, Kevin's wife, told me that those things are fit for someone who likes to tinker. And Mike (as anyone who knows him) LOVES to TINKER!!!!! Honestly he reminds me of Tim the Tool Man. However, Mike isn't as extreme. And he doesn't hurt himself so much (that would be my department). Well Brooke is so so so excited about her "car". She can hardly wait until its up and running. And I'm sure if Mike wasn't working on the yard, or his mini car for the derby, or the hunt that is coming up soon, her "car" would be in working order and flying. Lol!!

Brooke is having all too much fun playing with her cousins and her friend Jason while he is here. She is loving having dirt in the yard. Especially with dirt hills (which is now down to half of one) in the yard!!!!

Maybe I will have to search my pictures and just post some random ones for an update.

A Move and a Holiday all in one week!!

Well I guess it's about time for an update. We finally found us a place to live, barely in time!! Things were a little stressful for awhile. But we now live in a cute little house on the east side of town. Actually right behind where we lived when we were first married. The last weekend in June we went in and cleaned up the place. It was just totally remodeled from the 2x4s in. The owner's cleaner wouldn't have come until Monday or Tuesday and our landlords of our old place, wanted to move their stuff in Wednesday. Which meant we had to be out Tuesday. Saturday and Sunday we cleaned, Monday and Tuesday we moved. And I am so grateful to Selena and Amy helping me out so much!! And to Keith and Bo for helping with all the large stuff. I honestly don't know what we'd do without our great friends and family. When I found out that we had this house I called Selena and she and Amy came down Saturday morning eager to help. And the second Bo found out we were moving (even when we didn't know where to yet) he was all set to help us move yet again. And Keith well, that man is just amazing he is always willing to help somebody anytime. I just want to thank all the people who offered their help. We are blessed to have so many people willing to help us when we need it!!!

Okay so we spent the rest of the week setting the house up. Putting things away, and up on walls, etc. etc. Then Saturday morning all 5 of us headed to Aurora. Amy and Selena back home, Mike, Brooke and I for a visit. We love the 4th there. We spent one year down here and I refuse to ever again. Even Mike prefers there over here (even with all the people that's around... Since he really doesn't like being around a huge group of people). I being the smart little me that I am didn't eat breakfast (which is a no no anyway) beyond a few crackers and also took a vitamin that was 90% iron (which I didn't know). My body doesn't take well to iron. I have no idea why but it always makes me sick. Ironic, that I'm anemic and I can't take iron supplements like I should. Anyway I felt sick all day. Which wasn't good seeing how I was going to be in the sun anyway during most of the day. But luckily for me my usual sun headache didn't achieve it's height it was actually pretty melow. Which was nice.

Ok now I've really made this long. Well since I didn't feel good, I didn't know if we'd stay until it reached night time. And we decided to. We decided not to go to the rodeo that night. Instead we helped put on the fireworks over at my parents' next door neighbors the Chamberlains. Brooke was so exhausted she fell asleep during the middle of the fireworks. Which hasn't happened since she was 1. Sunday Brooke and I went to church with my family. Then afterward we had a great picnic outside with one of my alltime favorite family picnic meats... marinated turkey. Yummy not like I remembered it, but oh so yummy.

Also I was able to see a good friend I haven't seen since we graduated, Julie Miller Burns. I was so excited to see her!!! She about knocked me over from behind and I had no idea who she was at first. She is as beautiful as ever and doing great!!! We were able to catch up a little and enjoy the shade!!

We came back home and have been working on finishing putting everything together in our house. I have been so exhausted this week that I haven't done too much. Lazy I know. But it's practically done minus a few high wall hangings. Oh I have to add... we can have a tall Christmas tree, only this year it can be probably 15' YEAH!!! Skinny but tall!! I am so excited I love tall Christmas trees!!

"Our House"

Up the street from where we currently live, there is a beautiful home! When the family who owns this home was building it a couple years ago, Brooke came up with her own conclusion. This house was "our house". We were just "letting them live there". And she frequently makes statements like that. I thought I would post about it. It cracks us all up! Like not too long ago we drove by and their youngest son was outside playing catch with a friend. Brooke became upset wondering what they were doing. So I told her. And she said something like "I wish they would move out so we can move into our house!" I love it! I honestly wish it were our house. Here are some pictures of this gorgeous house.

A Father's Day Surprise!!

I know this is late but I wanted to share. So we woke up Sunday morning to a surprise! We found this in one of our basement window wells!!
Yes that is a skunk!!! I think when our sprinklers went off that morning it was scared or trying ot move out of the way and fell in. The window well is deep, so Mike put his crawdad trap in it, so it would hopefully climb it and get out. Well it did but 3 hours later. He decided to feed it a little dog food, because it was so tuckered out from digging and digging and scratching on the window trying to get out. That's when he decided to spray. Yes it did go into our basement (which still smells). We decided to finish taking all of our stuff out of the basement (which wasn't much other than our bedroom stuff and entertainment center, chair, fishtank, and fly tying stuff.) So poor Mike had to work all day. But he's such a trooper he didn't mind. However, I have to say that he was cute, it was just a baby and looked so lost and helpless. Anyway here is another picture of it (without the muddy footprints and hard water stain on the window)

Selena!!!

Okay so a couple weeks ago when Sena came down for the weekend, she told me that she wants my dad and I to do her senior pics. I am so excited! We started that weekend. I figure we have all summer to do so many different spots and clothes, etc. She will have many to choose from! Most people don't know I LOVE taking pictures. By the time Brooke was 1 (possibly before then) I had a good 2 -3 inch stack of pictures of her alone!! Anyway here are a few we have taken.

Okay so I had to post this because, it shows she does know how to pose cute cute for a camera!! If you know Sena you know how ungirly she is so I love that I got this picture (even with the wind blowing her hair everywhere)!!


There's one better than this, but if you look closely you can faintly see her belt buckle and it has PINK on it!!! She borrowed Brooke's buckle that is sparkly pink!! I was so surprised. (I really do love my sister, she is just so far from anything too girly.... seriously if a shirt has pink on it, she'd rather not have it let alone wear it)

My dad wanted her to wear his hat in some. I loved it. She reminded me of a Sherlock Holmes or something like it.
I was sad that I didn't take a better shot here, but I still really like it!!

Baby Aiden

So I just wanted to post these because they are too cute! My good friend Karena had her baby 3 weeks ago this Saturday. ( Wow! Already!) They moved back to Parowan when he was a week old. Brooke and I ran over Saturday morning before we went to Zions (while my fam was all getting ready) to see him for the first time. Here are the pics!

Brooke loves to feed him! She can only stand it for a few minutes because "her arm gets tired" But she still loves it!

Brooke liked feeding Mercedez because she could hold her own bottle!! But she quickly grew tired of holding it too...
She's going to be such a great big sister and so helpful!!! Some day.
