Derby

This year's derby was kinda a dud. The powder Puff and Final was the best part of the whole thing. The very first heat of demo was over in about 30 seconds, no joke. Mike's two mini cars were both in the first heat. Bo, in the "Mini General Lee" took the turn too wide heading into the second lap and another car helped him up onto the birm. Rusty did pretty good, especially for not ever practicing, the little green car.... wasn't running too swell.... and another guy (from Parowan) kept hitting him. Unfortunately they decided not to do a grudge match this year so neither guy made it far. Needless to say Mike was extremely disappointed. They had more fun practicing at the pond than the actual race.
 I have to say how great Mike is.... especially since he doesn't get much credit elsewhere. I hate this time of year, because I hardly ever see my husband, between work, working for anyone else and working on mini cars, I have a little time in the mornings, and and hour or two at night. Anyway this year he worked on even more cars than usual. He helped build half the Parowan guys' cars. He is a great mechanic and there are so many people that rely and count on him and he doesn't receive as much credit as he deserves.

The guy in the front of the picture birmed himself after birming another Parowan guy, then shoving Mike's uncle Ryan (in the 29 car) into another Parowan guy (white car with Evans written on it and flame job) which helped to stick him onto the tire, putting them both out.

The guy on the left is Rusty, the driver of Mike's aka the green car, then Topher, and Mike is leaning into the car starting it.

Here are more pictures of McKenna. These past couple of weeks have flown by. McKenna is growing and doing great. We were a little worried her first week because she became jaundice, really jaundice. But her level stayed the same (at 14.7... they put them under the lights around 15, 16) for a few days then the yellow went down. Now she still has some yellow in her eyes, but otherwise she's normal. Luckily she had central jaundice not periphrial or we would have had more to worry about. And tomorrow my first baby starts Kindergarten. It's so crazy! In some ways its hard to believe that not only do I have a child old enough for school, but I now have 2 kids. But I love it and wouldn't change anything!!

She is such a great big sister! She loves to help out whenever she possibly can. We have told her she cannot stand while holding McKenna especially where our main floor is tile. I was going to the bathroom and came out to find she had taken McKenna out of her carseat and put her on the bouncer. I just couldn't get mad at her because she was so cute buckling her up.

Brookey's Little Sister

Last Friday Aug 13 (yes Friday the 13th) our newest addition joined us. McKenna Lynn was born 8:10 AM weighing 8 lbs. 2 oz. and 20 in. long. Everything went good and as planned. Mommy and baby were able to go home Sunday morning which made a Brooke very happy!!! She wanted us to go home with them Saturday night, but of course I couldn't quite yet.
Brooke was able to be one of the first to see her and hold her. Although when Mike first brought her into my room with me there, she hid in his shoulder, she wouldn't even look at me for a few minutes. Which I totally expected a reaction like that. But after a minute she climbed up onto the bed next to me and wouldn't leave for hours!! But it was nice quiet bonding time for the three of us.
Just an interesting fyi..... there were 3 other babies born Friday along with McKenna. It was a popular day for babies!!!

A Week of Adventure

Last week we had my little brothers down with us. It is a little nerve wracking at times having them together, but also fun! Brooke LOVED having them there. Between playing Indiana Jones on the wii, hide and seek, golf or baseball, Brooke's toys, riding horses, mini car races, library (yes they even read while down here), and church oh and pulling weeds in our garden and a trip up the mountain in search of arrowheads (sadly turned into a rock search instead) they stayed pretty busy all week. We never got around to taking them fishing at the the pond though. Skyler wasn't ready to go home Sunday when dad, mom, and Amy came to pick them up. We also received a surprise Wednesday early afternoon. My brother flew out to come and see our Grandma H. who was in the hospital again for blood clots. He had texted me the day before asking questions and I didn't even guess he might have taken a quick trip out. It was awesome to see him again and we were all totally surprised when they came walking up the sidewalk the front of our house. Awesome surprise!!! I guess they decided to make a quick trip down to see us and to take the kids (mainly Brooke) to Despicable Me. Christian has been wanting to take her for months (however long it has been out). He thinks the one little girl reminds him of Brooke and she does, I just can't remember her name. Mom and I decided to go with and actually enjoyed the movie. I didn't think the movie looked that good, but it was pretty funny.

So uploading pictures isn't working, I will try again later... on another note we are down to a week left before the big day!!!! Which we are all excited about!

The 24th

My aunt Tracy came down to Kanosh, with my cousins again for the 24th. Mike was supposed to help drive a team of horses pulling a wagon here in Parowan, but the guy decided to pull a trailer behing his wagon instead, so us being free Saturday we decided to head up to Kanosh to see my family I haven't seen in oh 9 or so years. We didn't make it up in time for the parade that morning, so sadly we weren't able to see my grandma before they hauled her away in the ambulance.
After having a specialist look at her and her tests, they ambulanced grandma up to Utah Valley. Once again she has blood clots. She ended up staying in the hospital for 9 days before being released Monday. But on another note my Uncle Brian and 3 of his daughters drove out to stay for a few weeks. (We'll see if I want to make another trip up there so close.... but I really want to see him I haven't seen him since his wife and he were first engaged.... 5 daughters later, here we are...so we'll see).
The day was fun. We ate at the park lunch they hold every year... And the best part was the cakes for dessert (a step up from 2 years ago). But it is nice they cook for so many people at no charge. Brooke loved playing with Paula's Shelby! And it was awesome to see them get along so great. Brent's little girl Brenna was out playing with some other friends she's probably missed since moving away. But all the kids had fun and were going nonstop somewhere or doing something. Paula's little guy Kam was loving Mike!! I guess he doesn't like many people especially women (besides his mom) but he absolutely loved Mike. They were so cute together. I left my camera in the truck and never took the time to walk out to get it so I have no pictures, sadly. I loved seeing so much of my family that I never see. And I'm hoping sometime soon we can save up some money so Mike can get some sort of hunting tag for Wyoming and we can go visit Paula and her family and a new place.
